CARSON, Calif. – The LA Galaxy have yet again stolen the headlines after signing Javier “Chicharito” Hernandez to bolster their attack. But there are still questions looming on what the LA Galaxy defense is going to have.

LA Galaxy Defense Still in Question

Will the center back partnership be Giancarlo Gonzalez and Daniel Steres? Does Jørgen Skjelvik still have a place in the starting XI? Will the team be bringing reinforcement for the defense? So many uncertainties surround the back line that the only thing is for certain, manager Guillermo Barros Schelotto will have quite the dilemma at hand.

The defense hasn’t been changed much from last season in which the team let in 59 goals in 34 games. The only notable departures for this side in defense where Diego Polenta and David Romney. Besides them and the inclusions of Emiliano Insua and Danilo Acosta, the defense remains the same. Rumors had placed Peruvian center back Carlos Zambrano as a Galaxy target.

That was until on Tuesday January 21st LA Times reporter Kevin Baxter broke the news that the team had given up their pursuit for him. The fans will now have to wait in anticipation as to who the club will bring. At the time of writing this article there are no rumors or any updates as to any new players arriving.

If the season was to start today the LA Galaxy would most likely go with the center back partnership of Steres and Gonzalez. While many will argue of this partnership flourishing with time. The truth to this all is that the LA Galaxy need to bring in a player that can compete for a starting role.

This would not only bolster the starting eleven, but also add depth to a much needed side. In the fullback position the Galaxy have depth with Rolf Fetscher and Julian Araujo on the right. While Emiliano Insúa and Danilo Acosta making up the left side of the defense. With only thirty four days until the start of the MLS season the Galaxy defense still have unanswered questions at the back.
