Seattle, Washington — Harry Shipp isn’t leaving Seattle this year. The Seattle Sounders announced on Wednesday the re-signing of the veteran midfielder. Shipp featured 25 times for the Sounders in 2019. However, he did not appear in any post-season matches this year.
Shipp first joined the Sounders in 2017. During his time in the Emerald City, Shipp has made 62 appearances for the Sounders. This year was his best season, as he scored five goals and made 15 starts. Shipp has totaled 10 goals since arriving to the Pacific Northwest.
He was part of the Seattle team that made the 2017 MLS Cup Championship match, but eventually lost to Toronto. This past season, though, he and the team extracted revenge on Toronto with a championship victory.
“Harry has been an important member of our team the last few years and we are happy to bring him back for 2020,” Garth Lagerwey, Sounders general manager, said. “He provides steady, consistent play and is a good veteran presence in our locker room.”
Before arriving to Seattle, Shipp featured for the Montreal Impact for one season. In Montreal, Shipp made 20 starts in 27 appearances. He began his MLS career with the Chicago Fire, featuring in the Windy City from 2014-15. A native of Lake Forest, Illinois, Shipp attended Notre Dame University and made 84 appearances for the Fighting Irish.
