COMMERCE CITY, Colo. (July 19, 2019) – Lino De Rosa is coming to Dick’s Sporting Goods Park. Earlier this month, a GoFundMe was started to raise funds to get the Italian Rapids fan to a 2019 home match. Crowd-sourced through social media and the Colorado Rapids Discussion Group on Facebook, the campaign has reached it’s goal and then some.

De Rosa is from Caivano, Italy and has supported the Rapids remotely since 2012. The campaign was started on July 3rd and reached their goal of $2,000 around 7:00 PM MDT on Friday night. At time of publication, the campaign had reached $2,071 from 75 people in 16 days.

The GoFundMe read as follows:

Lino De Rosa has been a supporter of the Colorado Rapids since March 2012. He has been through the same rough seasons we’ve all endured, and he has done so loyally from his home in Caivano, Italy. It has come time to get his ass over here and to Dick’s Sporting Goods Park to cheer on our Rapids in person! The money raised will be used for airfare, transportation, lodging, and food for his trip. If we can only raise enough for airfare (about $1100), then we will sort out places for him to stay, how to get around, and food. If we don’t raise that much, all money will be refunded. This campaign will go on for the month of July, and will end August 3rd. So share away, donate multiple times, and let’s get him over here!

In an update post last Thursday, Jared Kaszuba, who started the GoFundMe, stated that all leftover funds would be donated to the Oar Foundation, the charity platform of Centennial 38.

It’s not clear which match(es) De Rosa will attend as the international travel complications could take some time. The Rapids have three home games in the last month of the season that could work: September 7th vs Seattle Sounders FC, the 11th against LA Galaxy, and 29th against FC Dallas (the last home match of the regular season).

This is a wonderful example of the grass roots culture of American Soccer and a triumph of the Colorado Rapids supporters community. Whatever match Lino ends up choosing, this writer is glad he’ll get to see his club in person and get to be a member of the Rapids community in person.
