Podcast (November 21, 2018) – Hello Rapids Fans and Happy Thanksgiving! For those of you sitting in traffic, stuck on an airplane, or looking for an escape from dinner table political arguments with that opinionated relative, we are here for you. This week, Red is joined by Mark Turner, founder of the Back Chat Show and Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC beat writer for Last Word on Soccer. We do a full breakdown of the Rapids and Switchbacks coming affiliation for 2019.

Holding The High Line: Rapids and Switchbacks affiliation

Substitute Mark introduces the Switchbacks and breaks down their brief history in the USL. We discuss how the Boys in Black got to where they are and the current state of the squad going into 2019 in a Rapids affiliation context. The lads talk about the potential symbiotic relationship the two clubs hope to develop and the pros and cons of the affiliation. Mark gets us caught up on what Switchbacks head coach Steve Trittschuh has been doing since leaving the Rapids as an assistant and what he’s like as a coach. Matt breaks down what Brian Crookham as Switchbacks general manager looks like.

The guys also discuss the Switchbacks stadium situation, Pride Soccer’s budding relationship with the Rapids Development Academy, and where Colorado Springs fits in the everchanging USL landscape. Oh, and Mark trolls the USMNT over the loss to England last week.

This episode is jam-packed with content and insightful nugget and will be informative for supporters of either club going into the first year of this relationship.

Matt Pollard is the Managing Editor of Last Word on Soccer and an engineer by day. A Colorado Convert, he started covering the Colorado Rapids as a credentialed member of the press in 2016, though he’s watched MLS since ’96. When he’s not watching or writing about soccer, he’s being an outdoorsman (mostly skiing and hiking) in this beautiful state or trying a new beer. For some reason, he thought that starting a podcast with Mark was a good idea and he can’t figure out how to stop this madness. He also hosts Last Word SC Radio.

Mark Goodman, the artist formally known as Rapids Rabbi, moved to Colorado in 2011. Shortly thereafter he went to Dick’s Sporting Goods Park, saw Lee Nguyen dribble a ball with the silky smoothness of liquid chocolate cascading into a Bar Mitzvah fountain, and promptly fell head over heels in love with domestic soccer. When not watching MLS or coaching U8 soccer, he’s generally studying either Talmud or medieval biblical exegesis. Which explains why he watches so much MLS, probably. He writes about the Rapids for Around MLS and covers the Pittsburgh Riverhounds of the USL for Last Word on Soccer. He also writes for American Soccer Analysis.
