Podcast (August 10, 2018) – Hello Rapids Fans! Today on Holding the High Line, Rabbi and Red are porch-side to talk about the Colorado Rapids transfer window. We banter about the complexities of moving across the country then get into a dramatic win from the Colorado Rapids over the LA Galaxy. The guys talk about the midfield shape, Sam Nicholson, and everything that went down on Saturday night at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park.
Holding the High Line: Colorado Rapids transfer window review
We then look ahead to the dumpster fire that is the San Jose Earthquakes. Mark and Matt try to make sense of how the Quakes became what they are and what they’re doing well or poorly. We look ahead to their future in comparison to the Pids and what the Burgundy Boys can do on Saturday to get a win.
The guys then recap the MLS summer transfer window, looking back at all the moves the Rapids did (and didn’t make) and what they mean for the team going down the stretch. We also take a step back and look at the big picture of how the lack of action in this window foreshadows what there is to come in the next year and beyond.
We finish the episode talking about Tim Howard’s future, whether a goalkeeper should wear the Captain’s Armband, and Mark’s last home game this coming Saturday.

Matt Pollard is the Managing Editor of Last Word on Soccer and an engineer by day. A Colorado Convert, he started covering the Colorado Rapids as a credentialed member of the press in 2016, though he’s watched MLS since it started. When he’s not watching or writing about soccer, he’s being an outdoorsman (mostly skiing and hiking) in this beautiful state or trying a new beer. For some reason, he thought that starting a podcast with Mark was a good idea and he can’t figure out how to stop this madness. He also hosts Last Word SC Radio.
Mark Goodman, aka the Rapids Rabbi, moved to Colorado in 2011. Shortly thereafter he went to Dick’s Sporting Goods Park, saw Lee Nguyen dribble a ball with the silky smoothness of liquid chocolate cascading into a Bar Mitzvah fountain, and promptly fell head over heels in love with domestic soccer. When not watching MLS or coaching U8 soccer, he’s generally studying either Talmud or medieval biblical exegesis. Which explains why he watches so much MLS, probably. He writes about the Rapids for Around MLS and covers the Pittsburgh Riverhounds of the USL for Last Word on Soccer. He also writes for American Soccer Analysis.
