Sam Nicholson and Eric Miller: Colorado Rapids and Minnesota United FC Make Trade
“We’re very pleased to add another key element to our attack. Sam is a high-intensity player who looks to break lines and get forward. He also has a very high soccer IQ, fits our system very well, and will be a quality addition to our locker room. We look forward to welcoming him to Colorado,” said Rapids Executive Vice President and General Manager, Padraig Smith.
Nicholson is 23-years-old and originally from Edinburgh, Scotland. He turned professional in 2013 with Heart of Midlothian Football Club, his youth team. He made 127 first team appearances in four seasons with Hearts, recording 16 goals. During the 2014-15 season, he helped the club finish third in the Scottish Premier League and earn a spot in the Europa League.
The midfielder came to MLS in summer 2017 with expansion team Minnesota United. He made his debut with the club on July 22. He made 20 total appearances for the Loons.
On the other side, Eric Miller was drafted by Montreal Impact as a Generation Adidas player in 2014. After two years with the Impact, he came to Colorado in 2016. In the last two seasons, he made 56 appearances in Burgundy and Blue. Miller had yet to play for the team this season, recovering from an undisclosed injury.
