Colorado Rapids Sign Forward 2018 MLS SuperDraft Pick Nikki Jackson

Jackson was selected in the 4th Round (73rd overall) in the 2018 MLS SuperDraft. The Scottsdale, AZ native played college soccer at Grand Canyon University. He is the only draft pick (one of five) of the Rapids to sign with the club so far.

“Niki has done very well this preseason,” said Rapids Executive Vice President & General Manager, Pádraig Smith. “He is a very talented, humble young man who has all the tools necessary to succeed as an attacking player in Major League Soccer. We look forward to helping him reach his potential.”

“It’s a dream come true,” said Jackson. “I’m very thankful to everyone at Grand Canyon who helped me become a better player these past three and half years, but can’t wait to get started with the Rapids. This is a club with a very strong vision for the future, and I feel fortunate to be a part of it.”

In his senior season, the 22-year-old scored 16 goals. At the end of the year, he was named Offensive Player of Year in the Western Athletic Conference. He was also named to the Western Athletic Conference All-American Team. Jackson’s 16 goals was third best in the nation for men’s college soccer last season.

Jackson joins a rebuilding forward corps along with Jack McBean and Enzo Martinez. It is unclear where Jackson fits in on the roster at present. He could very well end up with Charlotte Independence on loan at some point in 2018.
