CARSON, CALIFORNIA (January 9, 2018) – The LA Galaxy have signed midfielder Perry Kitchen, the club announced today. Kitchen started his professional career with D.C. United and has spent the last several years in Europe.

Kitchen turned professional in 2011 when he was selected third overall by D.C. United in the 2011 MLS SuperDraft as a Generation Adidas player. He spent five seasons in the Nation’s Capital, making 155 starts and becoming one of the best American holding midfielders in MLS. Kitchen was also a part of United’s 2013 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup Championship.

“Perry has proven himself to be a top midfielder in Major League Soccer during his time with D.C. United. He has continued to progress during his time in Europe and we are confident he can bolster our midfield. At only 25 years old, Perry is already an MLS veteran and will be a great addition to the LA Galaxy on and off the field,” said LA Galaxy Head Coach Sigi Schmid.

After the 2015 MLS season, Kitchen left MLS for Heart of Midlothian in the Scottish Premier League when out of contract. He made 39 appearances in a year and a half with the club. He was named captain just before the start of the 2016-17 season. A managerial change mid-season had him fall out of favor with the club and the two parted ways.

Last summer, Kitchen signed with Randers FC of the Danish Superliga. Kitchen made 17 appearances for the team before coming to the Galaxy.

The Indiana native has represented the United States internationally at a number of levels throughout his career. At the senior level, he has made five appearances but was not involved in the recent CONCACAF Hexagonal.
