Sporting KC knock off FC Dallas in Western Conference Heavyweight Bout
The first half of the match was nothing really to write home about. Each team traded shots attempted, but into the final twenty minutes of the half, Sporting KC started to get into their game plan. After that, it was the FC Dallas stall tactics, with Goalkeeper, Jesse Gonzalez, having to be warned by the ref three times before the end of the first half for taking his goal-kicks to slow.
It took Sporting KC almost 30+ minutes to get their first shot on goal. Once Salloi’s shot struck the frame, Sporting KC really started to have the game open up for them. In the 41st minute, the dam broke, and Sporting KC went ahead.
Cristian Lobato had his cut back attempt put over the goal-line leading to a corner kick. Graham Zusi put it in the perfect spot in front of the six yard box. Diego Rubio ran onto it and struck it sweetly first time, and rattled the top corner of the net.

The second half started a bit more in Sporting’s favor, but quickly had Sporting drop within their own half to absorb pressure and play on the counter. Dallas had a glorious chance in the 74th minute to equalize, as a route one ball to Tesho Akindele fell perfectly to his feet. A last ditch tackle from Jimmy Medranda poked the ball away to safety. After that Peter Vermes’ men were starting to grind the game to a halt.
Sporting were looking to dump the ball into the corner, but Graham Zusi sent Gerso Fernandes on a “wheel route” and blasted the ball high into the far corner of the field. Gerso ran onto it, and took a few dribbles inside. He unleashed a wonderful curling strike into the far corner cementing Sporting KC’s 2-0 win.
