Academy Product Justin Dhillon Signs With LA Galaxy II
Dhillon is a native of Rancho Santa Margarita, CA. In 2013 he was named to the Big West Freshman Team. In 2014, he was on the Big West Second Team.
“I’m really excited to get started,” he said about signing with Los Dos. Academy Director Mike Muñoz had just been appointed as the new head coach of the USL side. Dhillon had never played under Muñoz with the academy but did say “I’ve heard nothing but good things about [Mike Muñoz].”
In 2016, he made 17 consecutive starts. He scored 7 goals and recorded 2 assists as a senior, earning All-Big West Conference Team. He did so against an extremely tough schedule. The Cal Poly Mustangs played four ranked teams on the schedule, including three in the top 10 with Dhillon in the starting lineup. He scored the game winner in a 1-0 victory over No. 6 UCLA on September 23.
He spent part of 2015 with PSA Elite. The forward has also spent time with the U.S. Men’s National Team at the U-18 level.
Dhillon joins a club that could be in much need for offense. Fellow academy players Jack McBean and Raul Mendiola were big parts of the Los Dos attach in 2016. Both could be looking at spending more time with the first team.
Los Dos made the USL playoffs for the third consecutive season in in 2016. They finished the season 12-7-11. They led the Western Conference in goals scored with 52. Dhillon could play a big part of the club trying to continue that trend.
