Major League Soccer announced three starters for the New York Red Bulls to the All-Star team that will face Italian giants Juventus on August 1.

Three New York Red Bulls Named to MLS All-Star Team

Each year, coaches, fans, and commissioner Don Garber select a squad to face a team during their preseason. Previous opponents have included Bayern Munich and Arsenal. There were no Red Bulls on last year’s roster. The All-Star game will take place at Mercedes-Benz Arena in Atlanta. Atlanta United manager Gerardo “Tata” Martino will coach the All-Stars.

Star Striker Bradley Wright-Phillips

As his goal count nears the century mark for RBNY, Bradley Wright-Phillips joins the All-Star squad a star striker. “It lets you know you’re having a decent season,” Wright-Phillips remarked following the announcement. Wright-Phillips has tallied 11 goals so far this season and is a previous MLS Golden Boot winner. He also has five assists this year.

Rising Star Defender Aaron Long

A member of the 2016 USL Champion Red Bulls II, Aaron Long has made an impression during his time with the first team. There has been speculation that Long should be considered in future national team call-ups. Teammates Tyler Adams and Tim Parker have most recently joined the Senior team. “Most young American kids in this league dream of playing a top team in Europe,” Long said about his selection to the team facing the Serie A Champions.

World Cup Participant Michael Amir Murillo

Returning home from Panama’s first ever trip to the World Cup, defender Michael Amir Murillo is the third RBNY selection. Prior to his trip to Russia, Murillo offered one goal and two assists for the Red Bulls. Along with Fidel Escobar, RBNY’s formidable defensive line was featured in the world stage. Although Murillo was suspended on yellow card accumulation, he was part of a history-making Panamanian squad. His transfer was completed this year from FC San Francisco in Panama.
