COMMERCE CITY, COLORADO (January 29, 2018) – The Colorado Rapids have signed defender Danny Wilson, formerly of Glasgow Rangers in Scotland, the club announced today. The 26-year-old center back will occupy an International Roster Spot.

Wilson comes to MLS having spent his entire professional career on the British continent. He began his career with Rangers F.C. as a teenager in 2009. After making several stops throughout England and Scotland, he returned to Rangers in 2015. In total, he played 109 matches for the club.

The center back joins former Ipswich Town defender Tommy Smith as international defenders to join the club in recent weeks. In total, the Rapids have added eight new players from last year’s squad through signings.

“Danny’s signing is an important addition to our back line. In addition to his experience and leadership, Danny is in the prime of his career, and will be one of the best passing center backs in the league. We look forward to welcoming him to Colorado,” said Rapids Executive Vice President & General Manager, Pádraig Smith.

In the 2017-18 season, Wilson made 14 appearances across all competitions for Rangers. He played 1,077 minutes, recording three goals and two assists.

“First and foremost, I would like to thank Rangers, as well as their supporters, for the terrific support they showed during my time with the club. But in my discussions with Pádraig and Coach Hudson, it became clear that the Rapids have a very ambitious vision for the future, and I can’t wait to join the team and start the process of bringing that vision to life,” said Wilson.

Internationally, Wilson has represented Scotland at various age levels. He made his senior side debut in 2010, a match in which he scored in a 3-0 victory over Faroe Islands. Wilson has made five appearances for his senior national team.
