The Portland Timbers have signed former New York Cosmos midfielder Andres Flores, someone who is no stranger to new head coach Giovanni Savarese.

Portland Timbers Acquire Two Players, Re-Sign One

This past Wednesday, the Timbers announced the signing of midfielder Flores. The 27-year-old from El Salvador had 10 goals and 18 assists over the last four seasons with the Cosmos. Both him and Savarese claimed back-to-back NASL titles in 2015 and 2016.

Before making the change to the NASL, Flores played for Salvadoran side A.D. Isidro Metapan from 2009-2014. In that time, Flores registered 10 goals in 95 appearances. His international level has been recognized by getting capped 59 times by the El Salvador national team.

Not only did the Timbers sign Flores, they also announced the signing of defender Modou Jadama, as well as the re-signing of Bill Tuiloma.

“As we continue preparations for the 2018 season, we are pleased to add Andres Flores and Modou Jadama to the roster and to welcome back Bill Tuiloma for a second year”, said Timbers general manager Gavin Wilkinson. These players are very important additions to the roster and we look forward to each player’s contributions to the group this season.”

Jadama is a 23-year-old native of Gambia who made 32 starts for USL side Tulsa Roughnecks after he played professionally in Chile.

On the other side, Tuiloma has earned 23 caps for the New Zealand national team. He also made 11 appearances — all starts — for the Timbers affiliate T2 last year, scoring three goals.

Timbers Going After Justin Meram

It’s no secret that players of the Timbers 2015 MLS Cup Championship foe Columbus Crew SC are requesting trades, pending possible relocation to Austin, Texas.

Earlier in the month, the Timbers were the frontrunners for Iraqi international Justin Meram.

However, competing for a spot had the Timbers landed Meram would be hard. The likes of Diego Valeri, Sebastian Blanco, and much more, are standing in the way of acquiring the 29-year-old from Columbus.
