Kansas City- Multiple outlets are now reporting that Sporting KC are close to acquiring the services of French playmaker, Yohan Croizet, from KV Mechelen. The club has yet to make an official announcement.
Rumors: Sporting KC close to acquiring French Playmaker Yohan Croizet
Croizet is quite the interesting player. According to his Transfermarkt page, he started out at FC Metz, and then went to a lower division Belgian side, Oud-Heverlee Leuven. After earning a promotion to the first division, they were relegated in year one and Croizet jumped ship to Mechelen to stay in the Belgian top flight. Despite getting good playing time, he has failed to emulate his first season in the top flight with Leuven where he scored nine goals and provided four assists. He has just three assists in fifteen appearances this season.
Croizet is 25 years old, but will be 26 by the time the season starts. He’s close to 5’11”. Transfermarkt has his market value at the equivalent of $1.4million U.S. dollars. His last transfer was worth $650k, and due to his recent struggles at his current club, his transfer fee should be less than what would constitute as a D.P. price tag.
Croizet has seen most of his success come as an attacking midfielder, but can play on the wing. Still, most of his offensive production has come from the central position and would likely profile there for Sporting KC.
Croizet fits the motive of Sporting KC’s offseason goal of acquiring a no. 10. Although with all the funds available to them, Croizet might fill that need at a cut rate. The question is, if they’re doing this at a cut rate, then they may not get as much ability as they want. However, Croizet is still relatively young and in his prime. He’s got good playmaking ability and has great vision from the midfield.
Taking a look at his highlight reel, he can pick out most passes and has a knack for finishing. The left footed player would be a good add for Sporting KC if he is brought in at a TAM level. If he’s a DP, then there might be some concern that SKC spent too much money. Overall though, he should be a good signing for Sporting KC.
