LA Galaxy Announce Coaching And Scouting Additions

CARSON, CA (November 9, 2017) – The LA Galaxy have announced several new front office and coaching additions for this week. Oka Nikolov and Junior Gonzalez have joined the coaching staff. Kurt Schmid, son of LA Galaxy Head Coach Sigi Schmid, has come on as Director of Player Personnel and Scouting.

Nikolov joins the technical staff as the Goalkeeper Coach. The 43-year-old Germany-born Macedonian played most of his professional career with Eintracht Frankfurt. He did spend some time with the Philadelphia Union and Ft. Lauderdale Strikers in the United States. Most recently he was the goalkeeper coach with the Union working primarily with Andre Blake.

Gonzalez comes to the Galaxy as former Head Coach of Rio Grande Valley FC Toros of the USL, the Houston Dynamo’s affiliate. Gonzalez played college soccer at UCLA and has experience in MLS and with U.S. Soccer at the youth level. He was on the coaching staff at Seattle Sounders FC 2 while Sigi Schmid was the Head Coach of the first team.

Schmid joined the Seattle Sounders in 2009 as an Assistant Coach, Head Scout and Director of Player Personnel under his father. Prior to that, he had coaching experience at Saint Mary’s College and UC Irvine. Scmid played college soccer at Wake Forest and UCLA.
