Deuces Wild: Seattle Sounders beat Whitecaps, advance to Western Conference Finals
The first half was a little bit more of the same when it came to their first leg. Vancouver looked disinterested going forward, and Seattle looked toothless going forward. Seattle did have the better of the chances in the first half though.
Seattle’s Nouhou Tolo ventured into the area in the 30th minute or so. He was dragged down by his jersey by Whitecap’s left back, Jake Nerwinski. The initial penalty kick shouts were waved away by referee, Baldomero Toledo. But then Toledo was told to look at it again through VAR. Apparently what he saw wasn’t good enough to warrant a penalty kick so they played on.
Clint Dempsey ended with the best chance of the half. His flailing volley just missed the back post and skidded wide.
In the 56th minute, and the 146th minute of this series overall, there was finally a goal.
Seattle got a corner kick which was cleared initially, but worked its way back into the box. Dempsey settled it, moved it to his left, then unleashed a wonderful curling effort to beat Marinovic.

As the game seemed to grind to a halt, Seattle went back down and earned a corner. As Vancouver were falling asleep, they took it short. The ball worked out to Victor Rodriguez who ripped the ball to the back post. Dempsey was there waiting for his second and blasted it home.
The score ended 2-0 as a final, and Seattle were the clearly deserving winners in this Western Conference Semi-Final matchup. They will advance to the Western Conference Finals, where they will face the winner of Portland and Houston.
