LA Galaxy Win Final Home Game Of 2017 3-0 Over Minnesota

The Galaxy started the game off with good energy. Just 11 minutes in, they won a foul in the final third. Giovani dos Santos took the restart quickly, finding Romain Alessandrini on the flank. Alessandrini cut in towards goal and picked out the lower far corner to score. It was 1-0.

The Galaxy would double their advantage (eventually) in the 22nd minute. After some good ball movement, Jonathan dos Santos headed an Alessandrini cross towards goal. It bounces off the crossbar, off the grass, and back up. The officials initially ruled it did not cross the line. After a Video Assisted Referee (VAR) review, it was ruled a goal. The half ended 2-0 in favor of the home team, with Jerome Thiesson on a yellow card caution.

Minnesota got several good chances, especially winger Ethan Finlay. Galaxy goalkeeper Clement Diop made several good saves to preserve a clean sheet.

Alessandrini put the icing on the cake with a goal on the break in stoppage time.

The match ended 3-0.

Last Word:

Both of these teams have had disappointing seasons. The Galaxy were at risk for setting an MLS record for fewest home wins in the season, but staved that off with the win tonight. For Galaxy supporters and players, it must have been nice to get a win to finish off the home schedule. We’ll see if they can get a result next weekend at FC Dallas and have some momentum going into next year.

On the other side, Minnesota United have now conceded 67 goals this season. That ties Chivas USA (2013) for the most goals against. Should Minnesota concede a single goal at San Jose Earthquakes, they will stand alone as the worst defense in league history.
