COLUMBUS, Ohio – It’s been quite a while since Midfielder Dilly Duka got some MLS minutes. In his second stint with the 2008 MLS Cup champions, he has yet to see the field for the Black and Gold. The New Jersey native has also been battling injuries.
What Happened With Dilly Duka At Crew SC?
That’s not stopping him from expressing his feelings about his role at the club.
Earlier in the week, Duka tweeted out a picture (that has since been deleted) of what appears to be team stats. (Due to the severity of the topic, a picture of the tweet will not be shown in this article).
Duka has had his time split between three Eastern Conference teams. After being selected eighth overall by the club, Duka was then traded to rivals Chicago Fire. After a brief spell in Bridgeview, he then headed north of the border to Montreal Impact. He then went back to Columbus after Montreal did not retain his rights.
The midfielder did make in appearance with Columbus when he was put in at right back in Crew SC’s U.S. Open Cup match against FC Cincinnati. Afterward, he made his league debut by sitting on the bench in Columbus’ 4-1 win over the Impact.
Berhalter speaks out
At the conclusion of practice this past Tuesday, Head Coach and Sporting Director Gregg Berhalter spoke on the topic saying, “It’s been dealt with. We’ve talked to Dilly about it. What I’d say is there’s a huge trust built inside the locker room and you don’t want to violate that trust. That’s all I’ll say on that matter.”
Duka then posted a tweet in regards to Berhalter’s response.

The Other Side: Dilly Duka
Patrick Murphy of Massive Report on SB Nation stated that Duka wrote a message to the crew at Massive Report. You can check it out by clicking here.
This incident has been the first sight of drama since Kei Kamara and Federico Higuain had their spat over a penalty kick against — You guessed it — the Montreal Impact in which Duka played in that particular match. If you’re not sure about what happened, check it out here.
Berhalter made it known this past week that Duka will not practice and be left out of the squad when the team faces Atlanta United FC (Columbus would lose said game 2-0 behind a Hector Villalba brace).
It was unclear whether or not Duka had been suspended by the club. The last time a player was suspended by Columbus was Kei Kamara after verbally attacking Higuain to the media. That incident would see him out at Columbus and begin a new career with the New England Revolution.
As said before, it’s not clear if Duka is suspended. But, if Deja Vu were to hit again, expect some big announcements coming out from the club within the next few days.
