CHARLESTON, SC (May 13, 2017) – It was another tough road game for Saint Louis FC. It was another one goal win for the Charleston Battery. Forrest Lasso had the goal in the 62nd minute.

Saint Louis FC Manager Preki had some healthy reinforcements available in the match. Sebastian Dalgaard started at right midfield in a 4-4-1-1. Dragan Stojkov started up top behind Christian Volesky. Stojkov wore the Captain’s Armband.

Battery Head Coach Michael Anhaeuser also had his team in a 4-4-1-1. Romario Williams started up top in front of Ataulla Guerra. Forrest Lasso started at center back next to Captain Taylor Mueller.

The Battery had the better of the play in the first half. Saint Louis FC Adam Grinwis was up to the task, making several key saves on Williams. The visitors stayed organized, trying to create opportunities in transition, but nothing came of them. Center back Lasso was given a yellow card in the 13th minute for a hard tackle on Dalgard. That would be the only card of the half, which ended scoreless.

The visitors had a much better start to the second half. They carried 60% possession in the game. They got their wide players involved. Substitute forward Milan Petosevic created several good chances for Volesky, but they had trouble getting shots on target.

The home side opened the scoring in the 62nd minute. Lasso got his head to a free kick taken by central midfielder Justin Portillo. This goal gave Charleston life, as they continued to attack in waves. They had the better of the play from then on in the match.

Petosevic had a chance in the 88th minute to equalize on the break. His header was saved by goalkeeper Odisnel Cooper. The match ended 1-0.

This is a good win against an improved team by the Charleston Batter. The leaders of the Eastern Conference continue to play well, who are now 4-1-1 at home.

For Preki’s side, this is another tough loss on the road. They managed to bend but not break defensively for much of the match. Other than the first 20 minutes of the second half, their offense struggled. They didn’t create nearly enough chances to score. The players coming back from injury helped the side though. They’ll look to keep getting healthy and build some chemistry for next time.
